about

1964 - By '64 everything had changed. Beatlemania had conquered the world and the British Invasion -as well as London itself - was in full swing. Norman knew he was one of life's late developers, but this time he was determined to catch the wave as it broke. A Mod, he most certainly was not, but he captured something of the spirit of the age in this number, although again the lyric was trouble (shall we say) and rather at odds with the 'Sad/Glad' sentiments of the day. Norman to a 'T'

lyrics

Set fair for an English Summer
To the coast in the driving rain
As luck would have it
On a Spring Bank Holiday

A23, like a car park
There’s a tear-up in the near-side lane
Fisticuffs
on a Spring Bank Holiday!

Said I borrow my brother’s car
Fan belt snapped on the hard shoulder
Glove box stockings - I’m on my way
Part of the fun on a Spring Bank Holiday

Take a ride on the rollercoaster
Stretch the legs on the Promenade
Strawberry Mivvi,
or a mint choc chip sundae?

I met her by the seafood stall
She warmed my cockles and that’s not all
Too much to drink, I’m in a two and eight
Will I make the starting gate?

Easter Sunday to Whitsuntide
Saddle up and come for a ride!

Nylon sheets, a guaranteed sea view
Squint a bit and you’re in Corfu
slap and tickle, you have been warned
One false move and it’s 3rd degree burns!

Set fair for an English Summer
Then back to work in the pouring rain
As luck would have it
On a Spring Bank Holiday
